The Position:

The Vice President of Human Resources is responsible for the oversight of all of the Human Resources and Payroll functions of the organization. They are also responsible for the development, integration, administration and evaluation of the Human Resources programs for the organization's employees. This individual will lead, coach and mentor the Human Resources team and foster a culture that models the values of the Walbec Group, while establishing accountability and consistency for all employees. This person is also a member of the Senior Leadership team and Corporate Compliance Committee.

  • Overall accountability for the human resource function and performance. Responsible for the development, integration, administration and evaluation of the human resource programs. Translate the strategic and tactical business plans with the perspective of the impact on the employees.
  • Responsible for overseeing and verifying that all Human Resource functions are compliant with the policies and practices of the Walbec Group, the laws, regulations and administrative rulings of local, state and federal governmental organizations.
  • Strive to be current on and act as an organizational resource on industry trends
  • Lead, coach and mentor the Human Resources team, which is comprised of HR Manager; HR Business Partners; Benefits; Compliance/Outreach; Training & Development; Corporate Recruiters, HR Generalists and Payroll Manager. Assess the current team structure so that it is best poised to deliver services.
  • Lead, coach and mentor the Payroll Manager. Assess the current team structure so that it is best poised to deliver services.
  • Communicate the Senior Leadership team's strategic direction so the Human Resources team can align in planning their work and goal setting.
  • Be a resource and advocate for the team members. Understand the seasonality of the business and how it impacts the work of the Human Resources team.
  • Coach and consult with managers on disciplinary action, performance improvement plans and potential terminations. Act as a technical advisor on Human Resources to internal customers.
  • Evaluate and advise on the impact of plans, strategies and regulatory action in regards to the attraction, development and retention of talent. Develop professional, administrative, and field staffing strategies, implementation plans and programs to identify talent both within and outside of the organization.
  • Develop human resource planning models to identify competency, knowledge and talent gaps. Create
  • specific programs to fill the identified gaps. Foster talent management activities that will allow for succession planning, training and development programs and educational opportunities to permit the full development and performance of all employees.
  • Evaluate current and future programs that will allow the organization to attract and embrace talent from all backgrounds. Regularly assess programs and compare to other organizations in the industry and marketplace. Build and maintain relationships outside the organization with a focus for attracting talent.
  • Develop appropriate policies and programs for effective management of the people resources of the organization. Assess, enhance, develop, and implement systems that enforce Human Resources policies, compliance, and procedures that improve the operations of the organization.
  • Ability to lead people through change, drive results and build influence across the organization. Adept at building strong, respectful relationships within all levels of the business, from field sites to the corporate board room.
  • Adept at managing multiple, complex priorities and balancing the competing needs of the business. A fair and consistent leader who holds people accountable.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned

The Candidate:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources Management or related field
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in an HR Leadership role
  • Solid experience with union employees and safety
  • Payroll experience
  • Strong regulatory background including knowledge of federal, state and local laws
  • Fair, honest, approachable, and trustworthy
  • Willing to directly engage and roll up their sleeves
  • Ability to manage and lead people effectively

Preferred Skills:

  • Master's Degree in Human Resources Management or related field
  • Multi-state experience
  • Experience with government contract compliance
  • HR Certification
