 The following are detailed performance goals for the Controller opportunity.  When measuring overall aptitude and cultural fit, all candidates will be benchmarked using these standards.

 

Performance Objectives

  • Be the lead accounting person responsible for driving the accounting function to the next level
    • Month End Close: Timely preparation of monthly and yearly financials. Conduct monthly business reviews with project and area managers to ensure accurate financial data.  Hold the team accountable to a 7-day close.
    • Accounts Receivable: Monitor and manage the collection of accounts for both construction projects and material sales. Manage the reserve for doubtful accounts and provide advice on if, and when, it is appropriate to write off receivables.
    • Business Planning: Work with operations management to consolidate annual business plans and overhead budgets. Review the monthly financial statements and provide analysis as a cover sheet to a consolidated operations report.
    • Audit: Provide information and support for annual external financial statement audit. Act as a liaison between operations management and the auditors.

 

Performance Objectives

  • Be more than just a "bean counter", help run and operate our business!
  • Lead and Mentor the Project Manager Assistance Team: Manage the team that supports our project managers and ensures accurate roll up of information into our financial statements.
  • Lead and Mentor the Credit and Collections team for Material Sales: Manage the team that collects our material sales data, establishes and monitors our trade credit customers, and ensures the collection of receivables.
  • Actively Interact with the Regional Vice President and Operations Management: Be the financial resource for our operations. Attend operational meetings as necessary in order to understand the business and provide input.  Utilize your financial expertise to have a voice and be passionate about learning our business.
  • Initiate and Support Continuous Improvement: Work to improve our processes, add efficiencies, and provide better information to manage the business. Participate in cross-functional teams when needed to improve other department's processes.  Support the IT team on updates and improvements to our ERP and other software used to manage the business.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with a major or emphasis in accounting.
  • Public accounting firm audit experience vital.
  • Active CPA certification a plus.
  • A minimum of 4 years of accounting experience in either a construction and/or manufacturing environment.
