Description

 

The Telecommunications Specialist role is to install, support, and maintain in-house voice, data, and video equipment. This includes configuring, diagnosing, repairing, upgrading, and optimizing all telephone systems and services, voicemail and PBX communication systems, and video conferencing environments. The person will also analyze and resolve telecommunications circuit issues in a timely and accurate fashion, and assist all user needs.

 

  • Support and deploy telecommunications infrastructure and its associated software, including voice mail, Skype for Business, and video conferencing systems.
  • Support and deploy wireless mobility devices and services, including telephones and tablets running Android or iOS.
  • Provides technical support to resolve wireless carrier activation/set up, configuration and usability questions for end customers.
  • Provides account and billing related support. Completes service cancellations and exception-based service extensions within established client guidelines.
  • Configure, test, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot end user telecommunications hardware, software, and services.
  • Receive, prioritize, and respond to incoming support requests regarding equipment, service provider, or connectivity problems.
  • Perform analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of telecommunications problems for end users, and recommend and implement corrective solutions.
  • Accurately document instances of software, hardware, or service failure, repair, installation, and removal.
  • Generate telecommunications usage and inventory reports as required.
  • Monitor and identify capacity and performance issues for telecommunications traffic to ensure continued, uninterrupted operation.
  • Liaise with, and provide training and support to, end users and staff on equipment operation and other issues.
  • Conduct testing and development disaster recovery plans to detect faults, minimize malfunctions, and backup systems.
  • Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining policies, procedures, and training plans for telecommunication system's appropriate use.
  • Maintain a current knowledge emerging products, services, protocols, and standards in support of telecommunications equipment procurement and development efforts.
  • Where necessary, liaise with equipment vendors during installations, acquisition negotiations, and hardware performance issues.
  • Administer all contracts for telecommunications equipment and services.

 

Position Requirements

 

  • Education and/or experience in the field of telecommunications and/or 3 years equivalent work experience.
  • Certifications in telecommunications technologies or ITIL are desirable, but not required.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications hardware, software, and services.
  • Working technical knowledge of current telecommunications practices, protocols, and principles
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, oral communication skills, and proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to conduct research into a wide range of technical issues as required.
  • Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Strong customer-service orientation.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

 

Work Conditions

 

  • On-call availability on an as needed basis.
  • Occasional local travel and rare overnight travel.
  • Sitting for extended periods.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, hand and power tools, and to handle other computer components.
  • Lifting and transporting of heavy to moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals.
